Sharing Good News About Conservation Action (April 2025)

Each month we celebrate the positive actions in our communities, powered by the generosity and kindness of our volunteers, supporters, partners and donors.

There’s a lot of good news to share in April 2025.

Our Revive Our Wetlands initiative has resulted in the protection and restoration of wetlands, many of which are important Ramsar sites and areas of incredible biodiversity. We also celebrated Neighbour Day again this year, in recognition of the important role that neighbours play in building community and a sense of belonging.

We’re also excited to offer our volunteers many opportunities to mitigate climate change and be a part of changing the world. Read more below about our news, achievements in April and upcoming volunteering events for May and June 2025.

Celebrating Neighbour Day with Nature Blocks and Relationships Australia in 2025

You can spark and maintain connections by reaching out and making your neighbourhood more welcoming.

To celebrate neighbours, the feeling of belonging, and community, Neighbour Day has been established as an annual event by Relationships Australia. This year Neighbour Day took place on the 30th of March, 2025.

There are many ways to celebrate Neighbour Day, and Neighbours Every Day (Relationships Australia’s social connection campaign) – one of which is to start a Nature Block in your community. Here’s how you can create a Nature Block!

Get involved in citizen-science projects

You don’t need a scientific background to get involved in research and conservation. Citizen science activities can be accessible to everyone, while also being enjoyable and rewarding.

Citizen science initiatives typically welcome anyone to get involved in gathering data on topics like plants, animals, and pollution that can benefit the world.

Conservation Volunteers Australia has many different types of citizen science volunteer opportunities. Our projects empower citizens everywhere to gather and record data for conservation. That includes recording data about pollution in our rivers and ocean, and recording how many Nature Blocks you’ve planted using our bespoke CVA App.

Climate change is having an impact on our waterways

Climate change is already having profound impacts on waterways like rivers, streams, and wetlands and the ecosystems they support.

Understanding how climate change impacts water security through altered rainfall patterns, droughts, floods, and biodiversity can aid in creating effective management strategies.

Read our blog explaining how climate change affects rivers, wetlands and oceans – and, importantly, what we can do to mitigate these impacts
