Join the Global Movement to Make July Plastic Free

The scary truth is that every piece of plastic ever made still exists somewhere. A large amount of plastic is polluting our ocean, harming wildlife, and ending up in our food chain.

The good news is that we can change the world together and get rid of plastic waste. Change starts with simple actions, and July is the perfect time to begin.

Plastic-Free July is a global movement that helps millions of people be part of the solution to plastic pollution. Whether it’s swapping your cling wrap for beeswax wraps, saying ‘no’ to takeaway plastic cutlery, or joining a local clean-up event, every choice we make matters. Dive in and learn more about how you can join the movement for a plastic-free future.

How to live plastic-free?

There are plenty of reasons why it’s important for us to reduce the amount of plastic waste and embrace sustainable lifestyles.

You can get started during Plastic Free July in 2025 by pledging to refuse single-use plastics. By joining millions of people from across the globe in celebrating Plastic Free July, you can also contribute to cleaner seas, oceans, rivers, and environments.

✅ Step 1: Identify plastic in your life

The first step is to identify all the single-use plastic items in your life. Once you’re aware of how you’re using plastic, you can then focus on reducing and eliminating the use of plastic.

CVA designed the SeaToSource Plastic Waste Challenge to help households identify plastics in the home and empower you to conduct a plastic waste audit. By downloading the CVA App you can get started with this challenge!

✅ Step 2: Swap plastics for plastic-free alternatives

The next step is to identify alternatives to the plastics you use and to reduce your reliance on single-use plastics by replacing them with more sustainable options.

For example, you could replace a disposable coffee cup with a reusable one. And, instead of buying disposable shopping bags, you can take your own along next time you go to the supermarket.

✅ Step 3: Join a plastic clean-up event

There’s a huge amount of plastic waste that’s polluting our oceans, rivers, parks, and neighbourhoods. Every year, there are about 13 million tons of plastic that end up in the ocean alone.

You can help to eliminate this plastic pollution by joining a clean-up event. CVA organises regular beach and river clean-up events across Australia. Check out our conservation volunteering events and sign up for one near where you live.

In addition to clean-ups, we also host a range of other exciting conservation events. Here are a few upcoming events in July 2025.
