Jessie’s Global ‘Lonely Conservationist’ Movement

To celebrate International Women’s Day in 2025, we partnered with the Hobson’s Bay Wetland Centre and Jessie from Lonely Conservationists, to deliver an exciting event for conservationists. With a talk from Jessie Panazzolo about caring for conservationists, our CVA volunteers also took part in a hands-on coastal clean-up activity around beautiful wetlands.

Jessie, who started Lonely Conservationists – a supportive community dedicated to helping environmentalists navigate the challenges of conservation work – says, “We need to make sure we’re being looked after, as we do so much to help care for our natural world.”

Find out more below about Jessie’s ‘conservationist conservationist’ movement, and how you can participate in community conservation initiatives with CVA.

Jessie Panazzolo: a conservationist conservationist

Jessie Panazzolo is raising awareness about the importance of taking care of conservationists and environmentalists who may feel the weight of the world on their shoulders, and to get help and support if feeling burned out or lonely in their sustainability journey.

To help get the time to reflect on your mission to help save nature, Jessie’s workshops help people think about their challenges and how to get help and be cared for during their journey as conservationists

You may be inspired and comforted to know that there is a whole tribe of lonely conservationists out there who feel just like you do. To get involved in Jessie’s lonely conservationist movement, visit her website Lonely Conservationists, contribute to local conservation organisations like CVA, and look at the Conservationist Care website.

About CVA: A community of conservationists across Australia

Conservation Volunteers Australia, as an organisation, is all about caring for our natural world, while also bringing health and wellbeing benefits (both physical wellbeing and mental wellbeing) to conservation volunteers.

Conservation volunteering can also help combat feelings of loneliness and build a sense of community. And a study has shown how conservation volunteering activities like weeding, planting in gardens, and bush care projects, can help people who may feel out of place and isolated, find a sense of belonging.

As a thriving community of conservationists across Australia, CVA empowers everyone to get involved in building back nature in a variety of ways.

This includes taking part in CVA conservation volunteering events nationally, downloading our CVA community app, which has a host of conservation resources, and building your own Nature Block at home.

We also create fun and engaging conservation action campaigns to help conserve and restore nature, such as our SeaToSource Plastic Waste Challenge, which empowers people to reduce plastic waste consumption.

Community conservation events: Sign up and meet fellow nature stewards

If you’re looking for opportunities to meet and engage with fellow conservationists and nature stewards in Australia, you can do that by participating in CVA’s upcoming volunteering events and downloading the CVA App.

When you take part in Conservation Volunteers Australia volunteering activities, it’s also an opportunity to meet fellow nature stewards, create new connections, and feel a sense of community and purpose.

There are many volunteering events to sign up for throughout the year. Simply visit our website, choose an event near you, and make a booking. You can also do this by downloading our CVA app and booking events directly from your mobile phone.
