Wetland Revitalisation Central Queensland

The wetlands of Mackay and St Lawrence are vital ecosystems that support rich biodiversity, protect coastal environments, and sustain local communities. These wetlands act as natural filters for water quality, provide habitat for threatened species, and play a crucial role in carbon storage and climate resilience.

Our mission is to rehabilitate and restore these important wetland areas through community-driven efforts focused on removing invasive species, replanting native vegetation, and improving water flow and habitat conditions. By actively caring for these wetlands, we aim to strengthen ecosystem health, enhance biodiversity, and build resilience against environmental threats.

Volunteers play a critical role in this mission. Their hands-on work helps accelerate wetland recovery and fosters a deeper connection between people and place. Through their contributions, volunteers help safeguard these precious ecosystems for future generations, ensuring that Mackay and St Lawrence wetlands remain vibrant, thriving, and resilient.

You can learn about the wetlands’ ecosystems and functions, the flora and fauna of the diverse ecosystems, land and sea connectivity, and wetland rehabilitation and protection. Together we can make a difference and enhance biodiversity by protecting our wetlands

Project volunteering activities include:
– Collecting seed and growing native tube stock
– Planting trees and spreading seeds to improve biodiversity
– Conducting flora and fauna surveys to evaluate the health of the ecosystems
– Removing invasive pest species
– Educational activities, and much more

With the opportunity to select from a variety of activities this project is suitable for anyone interested in conservation, our oceans, and wetland health.
