Restoring the Wetlands of Port Phillip Bay

Port Phillip Bay’s wetlands, rivers, and coastal areas are vital for the health of our communities and nature.  They are our shields for extreme weather and erosion, our natural water filters and our integral hubs for sustaining biodiversity. Yet, they are under major threat from pollution, habitat loss, and climate change. Now is the time to take action.

Through our Revive our Wetlands initiative, we’re restoring priority, RAMSAR-listed wetlands across Australia. Here we collaborate with Traditional Owners, local grassroots communities, and our conservation partners, working to strengthen these ecosystems against climate challenges.

Despite their value, these wetlands face growing threats from urban development, invasive species, pollution, and climate change. Conservation Volunteers Australia is working with Traditional Owners, local councils, and community partners to restore and protect priority wetland sites across the Bay. Through invasive species removal, native planting, litter clean-ups, and habitat monitoring, we’re helping to rebuild ecosystem health and resilience.

These efforts are not only protecting nature but also creating stronger, climate-resilient communities. By restoring wetlands, we’re securing cleaner water, healthier biodiversity, and a more sustainable future for people and wildlife around Port Phillip Bay.
