Planting for Tomorrow – Supporting Wetlands in SA

Wetlands play a crucial role in combating climate change thanks to their ability to store carbon and mitigate greenhouse gas emissions. They act as carbon sinks, trapping and storing significant amounts of carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. Wetlands such as mangroves and saltmarshes found in Adelaide’s north and beyond are among the most efficient carbon storage ecosystems on the planet, storing more carbon per unit area than tropical rainforests!

Additionally, wetlands help regulate water cycles, reducing the impacts of floods and droughts exacerbated by climate change. They act as natural buffers against storm surges and sea-level rise, protecting coastal communities from erosion and inundation.

By preserving and restoring our precious wetlands, we can bolster natural climate solutions, aiding in global efforts to mitigate climate change, adapt to its impacts and ultimately safeguard a future for all.

Revive our Wetlands is supported by Chevron Australia.
