CVA Updates

Meet Madison Whitton: Our New Project Officer in Western Australia

We’re excited to welcome a new face to our team in Perth — Maddie, who joins us as a Project Officer!

Maddie brings with her a deep passion for the environment, hands-on experience in conservation, and an infectious enthusiasm for inspiring others to connect with nature.

From wetlands to coastal habitats, she’ll be leading and supporting projects that make a real difference to both people and ecosystems.

We asked her a few questions to get to know her better 👇🏼

Can you tell us a little about your background and what led you to work in conservation?

I grew up in Canada, right on the Great Lakes, so I’ve always had a deep connection with water. That appreciation for the environment led me to study marine science at university. From there, I realised I wanted to inspire others about conservation through education and hands-on experiences.

What excites you most about joining CVA as a Project Officer?

I’m really looking forward to engaging with like-minded people and getting hands-on out in the field. I also love being able to offer unique learning experiences in nature — helping people get excited about the natural world and see how cool it is.

What projects will you be working on?

In Perth, I’ll mainly be working on the Revive Our Wetlands project, which has strong ecological and cultural significance in the area. I’ll also be involved in the Sea to Source project, which tackles marine debris and plastic waste in our waterways, as well as helping deliver some of our Urban Shade Forest projects.

Is there a particular ecosystem you’re especially passionate about protecting?

Definitely coastal and marine ecosystems. I’m an ocean person through and through, and that passion flows into both my personal and professional life.

What’s your favourite way to spend time in nature?

At the moment, it’s with my dog. She gets me outside every day, rain or shine. I love sharing the sights, sounds, and smells of the outdoors with her — so many of them are still new to her, which makes it exciting for me too.

Fun fact: Can you share something people might not know about you?

Since moving to Australia six years ago, I’ve called four different states home: New South Wales, Queensland, Victoria, and now Western Australia!

We’re thrilled to have Maddie join our team and can’t wait to see the impact she’ll make on our projects around Perth.
