Tackle Plastic from #SeaToSource in Botany Bay

Join us as we work towards a cleaner plastic-free future, cleaning up the beaches of Botany Bay and collecting litter data in order to track and prevent ocean litter from #SeaToSource.

#SeaToSource is a project powered by Conservation Volunteers Australia and supported locally by NSW Ports, aimed at empowering individuals and communities to take action on one of the world’s most solvable environmental issues – ocean litter.

We’re committed to reducing the amount of plastic litter entering our creeks, rivers and oceans which cause harm to the animals that call Botany Bay home. Plastic makes up around 60-95% of the litter in our waterways and oceans, negatively impacting the amazing marine life that call these places home. By removing these key threats, we are ensuring that these precious ecosystems remain healthy and resilient for years to come.

But #SeaToSource is much more than your average beach clean up! As part of the project, we are working alongside the CSIRO to collect litter data to contribute to the Global Plastic Pollution Baseline project. The project aims to collect data about the litter we pick up. By collecting this information, we can better understand the sources, movement, distribution and impacts our waste can have on people, wildlife, and sensitive ecosystems. Ultimately, this data will be able to influence decision-makers (such as industry leaders and policymakers), helping to stop litter at the source.

So, if you’re looking to improve the health of our waterways and communities, whilst spending a great day out on the beach, come and join us!

Proudly supported by NSW Ports.

Can’t attend events on the ground?

We know that it’s not always easy to find time to volunteer with us, so we’ve created ways for people to take action anywhere, anytime. Everyone can take part and help build resilience and adaptation to climate change!

Take action from home with our two app-led activities available on our CVA Community app:

  • Contribute to cooling your neighbourhood by planting climate-resilient native species in your backyard or on your balcony with Nature Blocks.
  • Lower your household carbon footprint by participating in the SeaToSource Plastic Waste Challenge and cutting back on your consumption of fossil fuel-based plastics.
