NRMA Insurance partners with CVA to Protect and Improve Koala Habitats

NRMA Insurance are helping to build resilient communities by supporting CVA in our koala habitat restoration efforts.

Aligning with NRMA Insurance’s purpose of “making your world a safer place” and “help is who we are”, this exciting 3-year partnership aims to restore, increase and maintain known koala habitat areas in Queensland and NSW. As part of this project, CVA is engaging its network of volunteers and project partners to deliver beneficial conservation outcomes for our nation’s iconic marsupials and build community connection and resilience.

The target for the first year was to plant and establish 60,000 trees across priority locations, in South East Queensland and North New South Wales. This target included NRMA Insurance’s promotional period where our Major Partner committed to planting one tree for each Home Insurance Policy purchased.

To keep us on track of this scale planting, we created The Great Koala Race event to engage two teams of CVA staff and community volunteers from across Australia to compete and successfully plant 20,000 trees over a two-week period! CVA worked closely with a number of nurseries, including Friends of the Koala, a not-for-profit and volunteer-run native plant nursery in Lismore (NSW), to source koala habitat trees for planting.

Thanks to the support of NRMA Insurance and over 3,000 community volunteers, including scouts, students, school students and several corporate and government groups, over 67,500 koala habitat and food trees were planted which exceeded our Year 1 partnership target.

The program received overwhelmingly positive feedback from volunteers, community groups, local partners, government agency staff and NRMA Insurance staff. Together we were able to improve habitat areas that may not have been accessed before. We look forward to sharing more habitat improvement stories as they are achieved in the remaining two years of the partnership.

“Thanks to NRMA and CVA for coming here and doing the planting, we’re hoping that in a few years’ time this will be much needed habitat for Koalas”.
