French Island forest sprouting in recovery from the bushfires in 2020

Recovery on French Island

As part of our work to coordinate the environmental volunteering for national bushfire recovery work, we want to share stories about how our forest recovers naturally, as well as with the help of volunteers.

The following is a photo essay by Sam Rye, who has been leading the online engagement work for our bushfire response. He took a trip to French Island after the January fires, but before COVID-19 caused movement restrictions across the country, to assess the damage and look for signs of recovery.

Enjoy!
