Green Gym Western Sydney

Green Gym – Western Sydney

Green Gym for Unpaid Carers

Green Gym for Carers is a free outdoor program for Carers in Western Sydney, to help improve health and wellbeing by reducing stress and being active. As part of a group, you will spend time with other Carers during a three-hour session where you can take time out for yourself in a social setting. Immersion in the beautiful surrounds of the Auburn Botanic Gardens precinct and the local Council nursery will foster mental wellbeing. Green Gym is a great opportunity to learn new skills and help improve the environment while being active in nature.

What’s Involved?

Each program runs for 14 weeks but we are flexible to fit with your needs. Each session starts with a safety briefing and session overview, followed by a warm up before getting into the day’s tasks. Mid-session you will break for refreshments and a healthy snack. Activities will continue until it is time to cool down before wrapping up the session. You’ll have the opportunity to enjoy the tranquil settings with a like-minded group of people as you go at your own pace – take it as easy or make it more challenging, it’s up to you!

Green Gym for Carers is proudly supported by FACS

Start Date: Tuesday 25th September 2018

Duration: Program runs for 14 weeks but we are flexible to fit with your needs

Start Time: 09:00am to 12:00pm

Transport: Optional complimentary transport from Auburn Station. Free parking is also available.

You might support or know someone who supports a friend or family member as a Carer.

People with a mental illness, disability, or chronic illness, often have a support person in their lives; someone to offer a helping hand or listening ear. Similarly, people with an alcohol and/or drug dependency, and those with a terminal illness also often have a person in their life who helps out. In this way, a Carer is giving of themselves.

Although every situation is different, it is important for carers to take some time out to look after their own wellbeing. Green Gym is a wellbeing program built for this purpose.

A welcoming and flexible program, Green Gym is a way to connect with nature, while improving fitness and wellbeing. Set beside the tranquil Auburn Botanic Gardens in the Cumberland Council Nursery, activities include growing seedlings, weeding garden beds and learning about plant care.

Situated in the middle of the bustling Western Sydney suburb of Auburn this small green oasis beside Duck River is popular with locals and visitors alike. You will meet other carers, become a friend of the Award Winning Auburn Botanic Gardens, and have an opportunity to focus on your own health.

There will be plenty of cups of tea and coffee and the venue is well shaded covered with close access to bathrooms.

With peacocks wandering freely around the site you will get to spend a few hours each week in a small urban sanctuary with a background of birdsong as you enjoy a morning or afternoon in the famous Japanese Gardens or under shelters in the community nursery.
