CVA Updates

COVID-19 & Community Update – December 2020

Conservation Volunteers Australia has always been a home for people which believe we must rebalance nature for a stronger, more resilient future. We’ve done great work together, but the challenges continue to grow in scale and urgency.

Now, nature needs us to step up in a bigger way, so we’re growing our reach to make a bigger impact. Here are a few updates we want to share around that:

New Website & Our Campaigns

We aim to achieve an impact through five Campaigns to better tackle conservation challenges across Australia. Through these Campaigns, we are developing the kinds of partnerships which bring together the essential ingredients to create better futures for the species and habitats in need, and the communities around them, over multiple years.

These combine evidence-based practices with the power of people like you who care, to make real and lasting change at scale. Jump online to learn more about how Revive, Future Stewards, Greener Cities, Wild Futures and Green Links can help you make the difference you want to see for Australia’s ecosystems and yourself.

Likewise, last month we launched our refreshed website and new look, which should give you a much better sense of how you can get involved moving forward.

COVID-safe Volunteer activities resume

This year has been incredibly hard for people and communities across Australia and indeed around the world. Our thoughts go out to everyone affected by COVID-19, in the many different ways that may be.

In March we halted our volunteer activities to protect staff, volunteers and communities we operated in, however…

We’re delighted to announce that we’re back out working to bring nature back in balance in locations around the country, and you can now find opportunities near you online. We’ve put in place safety controls to keep you and our staff safe, so please do ensure you follow those instructions.

Face-to-face and online participation

During COVID-19 we have been working hard to make it possible for all Australians to take action for nature.

We have launched exciting online initiatives, so that no matter where you are, if you have an internet connection, you can still make a difference to our ecosystems and your community. For example you can go to The Campfire, our new place to share stories, ideas and work out ways to tackle challenges like ocean litter and bushfire recovery, together.

We are still providing in person volunteering across many locations and this will increase further as COVID decreases. As our projects change, the locations of these activities will also change, if you are used to seeing us in person and that is not the case now, keep an eye on our website and social feeds. We have closed down our city-based Facebook pages because we feel we can keep you better informed through other channels, but if you don’t already – you can follow our main CVA Facebook page here.

Have your say

In the meantime, please join us online and share your thoughts and ideas about what you want from us through our survey, as we build a community of people around Australia who take action for nature.
