The Atlassian Online Corporate Innovation Challenge pits 20 teams from businesses across the Asia-Pacific, to develop innovative approaches to a pressing environmental & social challenge.

Part of our Corporate Challenge Series, this virtual corporate innovation challenge event will take place on April 20th to celebrate Earth Day which falls on 22nd April and encourages a global support for environmental protection in the Decade of Restoration. This challenge contributes to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 – Good Health & Wellbeing, 15 – Life On Land & 17 – Partnerships For The Goals.

Twenty teams of up to 5 participants from businesses across the Asia-Pacific will compete to create and submit the most innovative approaches to help increase engagement in CVA’s Citizen Science programs helping to strengthen biodiversity restoration.

During the challenge, participants will have access to an exclusive masterclass session and receive online guidance to support innovative thinking. Teams will have 4-hours, within a 12-hour time window to accommodate time zones, to complete this challenge and submit a response.

Challenge Theme

During this 4-hour challenge, teams will work together to come up with an innovative solution to the challenge:

How can we increase the number of Australians actively participating in Citizen Science opportunities to protect and restore biodiversity?

Groups will be asked to submit a 6-page slide deck describing their innovation and why it would be successful.

After all entries have been submitted, an expert judging panel will review the submissions and select the winning innovation

The winning team will receive the CVA Corporate Innovation Challenge trophy and will be invited to present their idea to Atlassian Headquarters.

Conservation Volunteers Australia will then actively pursue implementation of the winning innovation, aspiring to achieve greater Citizen Science participation across the country.

“Whether you call it corporate social responsibility, corporate citizenship, or sustainability, taking part in initiatives that improve the world we live in is a part of being human. Atlassian is excited to be supporting the Corporate Innovation Challenge and solving some of humanity’s biggest problems.”

– Eve Claydon, Atlassian Content Designer and Sustainability Advocate

Why get involved?

By participating in our virtual innovation challenge, employees will enhance their team building skills as they engage remotely in problem-solving activities, either from their office or from the comfort of their own homes.

Participants from our World Oceans Day-themed 2020 Corporate Innovation Challenge shared that employees felt empowered to use their skills and experience, whilst also challenged and inspired by the new domain to apply their capabilities to. With a self-paced structure to work to, employees used their talents to invent new sustainability initiatives, pitch new products, and assess their own organisation’s opportunities for change.

This challenge fosters an open culture of creativity, which breaks down silos between departments and organisations, by removing the requirement for face-to-face meetings.

“It was a fun and meaningful day to spend with my team.”
