Patterson River

Conservation Volunteers Australia conducted over 120 volunteer days of litter collection and citizen science analysis of litter and plastic pollution in the Port Phillip Bay area of Isaacs with local community and school groups to reduce marine debris entering the bay.

Activities undertaken included targeted clean ups of the Patterson River with citizen science events, identifying specific types of rubbish entering the waterways and their source, collating information macro and micro plastic and adding it to the Australian Marine Debris Database via the Tangaroa Blue collection method. With all results shared to local councils and other government bodies to inform litter control solutions from the source, to the sea.

Through hands on citizen science litter clean up events, CVA is equipping local groups to continue to look after their local waterways. Identifying local litter hotspots so they can continue to clean up and care for their aquatic environment.
