Casual Project Officer, Wild Futures

Location: Ballina

Working as part of the Campaigns Team, the Casual Project Officer will build the organisation’s capacity to deliver in person volunteer events across multiple campaigns in the north-coast NSW region.  As part of a broader team of Casual staff, you will apply your experience in the fields of Conservation & Land Management/ Bush Regeneration/ Wildlife Ecology and your expertise in leading volunteer teams, to host community events which deliver positive outcomes for both nature and community.  In doing so you will actively engage audiences in your project and its story and execute your project’s plans to achieve its goals.  You will work closely with, and be supported by your Campaign Project Manager, other Project Officers in the Project team, our Engagement, Communications and Safety teams, our processes and procedures, and the wider CVA staff community. You will be accountable to your Campaign Project Manager for the quality and timeliness of your work.

The ideal candidate will have:

  • Minimum 2 years on-ground bush regeneration experience and/or Diploma of Land Conservation or equivalent
  • Experience with delivering bush regeneration or similar projects on time and on budget
  • Ability to work independently, showing initiative and good problem-solving skills.

Essential Qualifications & Experience

  • Qualifications or equivalent experience in the fields of Conservation & Land Management/ Bush Regeneration/ Wildlife Ecology
  • Experience leading volunteer teams
  • Experience organising community events and working with diverse stakeholders
  • Defensive Driving certificate (obtained within the last 5 years)
  • Current Working with Children Check
  • Current First Aid certificates – Provide First Aid and Provide CPR
  • Occupational Health and Safety Level 3


This position is Casual with no guaranteed minimum number of hours, though we do expect a substantial amount of project work to be available from February to June 2021 and possibly beyond.  The variable roster will usually be completed at least 4 weeks in advance and may involve weekend work.  Events will be located within the north-coast NSW area (primarily around Ballina/Lismore and surrounds), but there may be opportunities to travel further afield.  Having access to your own vehicle to travel to project locations would be desirable.
