Personally Identifying Information

Personally identifying information means any information from which your identity is apparent or can be reasonably ascertained.

Conservation Volunteers (CV) does not collect Personally Identifying Information about you when you visit CV Managed websites. You can visit CV managed websites without revealing Personally Identifying Iinformation unless you choose to provide such information.

Site visit data

Conservation Volunteers  makes a record of your visit and logs the following information for statistical purposes:

  • your computer’s Internet address
  • the name of the top-level domain from which you access the Internet (for example, .gov, .com, .au, .nz, etc)
  • the date and time of the visit to the site
  • the pages accessed and documents downloaded
  • the previous Internet address from which you linked directly to the Conservation Volunteers managed website.

We will not identify users or their browsing activities, except where a law enforcement agency (or other government agency) may exercise a legal authority to inspect our records (eg by warrant, subpoena or notice to produce).

Demographic information

We use Google Analytics software which enables us to track the demographics of visitors to our site, including age, gender, and interests based on your Internet activity. This demographic data is used to understand who is visiting our website and provide better service to our visitors.  You cannot be personally identified via this data.

If prefer not to have this information collected when you visit websites, you can use the Google Analytics opt out tool.

Cookies

A cookie is a piece of information that a website sends to your browser, which is stored on your computer then sent back to the site the next time you visit.

We use cookies for the following purposes:

  • To identify you when you sign up or login to our website
  • To facilitate social media sharing
  • To embed interactive elements in webpages, such as forms and videos
  • To provide metrics about visitors to our site and how they use it

Email management and Online forms – collection of Personal Information

Your email address will only be recorded if you explicitly provide it to us, for instance when signing up for an account or when sending us a message via our contact form.

It will only be used for the purpose for which you have provided it and will not be added to a mailing list unless you have requested this. Your email address will not be used for any other purpose, and will not be disclosed, without your consent.

If you are asked for any other Personally Identifying Information you will be informed how it will be used if you choose to give it.

Security

Conservation Volunteers maintains the same level of security for Personally Identifying Information collected in an electronic format as it does for that collected in paper format.

However, if you are providing Personally Identifying Information via an email or an online form you should be aware that there are some risks to transmitting data via the Internet.  Conservation Volunteers is not currently using encryption for secure data transfer except for the transfer of credit card information.
