CVA wins 2009 Environment & Sustainability Award

The Regional Achievement and Community Awards encourage, acknowledge and reward valuable contributions and outstanding achievements in regional and rural areas. A focus of the awards is community groups enhancing the social, economic, commercial and environmental prosperity of their region. Conservation Volunteers was delighted to be awarded the Parks Victoria Environment and Sustainability Award at a ceremony in Ballarat, Victoria.

Nationally endangered female Southern Brown Bandicoot with pouch young was recently trapped during the Naturewise mammal trapping program in the Grampians. This the first Bandicoot to be found since the 2006 bush fires.

Winner Australian Tourism Awards for Excellence

Conservation Volunteers Australia and NSW National Parks & Wildlife Service were awarded the 2008 Australian Tourism Award, Ecotourism Category for the Montague Island Naturewise program. This is the second consecutive Australian Tourism Award win for this fantastic conservation tourism partnership.  Conservation Volunteers Australia was also recognised as a finalist in the Sustainable Tourism Award category.  The award recogniton is a testimony to the significant role tourism can play in conservation.

CVA wins inaugural Qantas Award for Excellence in Sustainable Tourism at the Victorian Tourism Awards!This award reflects a strong commitment to sustainable and innovative business practices. The award recognises andshowcases successful tourism businesses that set out to minimise their environmental impact, conserve natural resources, respect local cultures and benefit local communities. CVA is now a finalist in the National Tourism Awards, due to be held in February 2009.

 

13 April 2008 

At the Tidbinbilla Extravaganza, the ACT Chief Minister, Jon Stanhope MLA, officially opened the Sanctuary and was pleased to announce the partnership with CVA and the new Volunteer Interpreter Program. The day was highly successful, with over 2,000 people visiting the Sanctuary. CVA’s Chairman, Gerry Morvell, also attended and spoke of the importance of the Volunteer Interpreter program to the Sanctuary and CVA. 12 April 2008

CVA launched Tasmania's new and improved "Adopt a Highway" project. "Adopt a Highway" in Tasmania had ceased with the government concerned with management issues. CVA has now been appointed to manage the program and will receive funding to oversee this project for initially 18 months. The launch was a great success with many pledging their ongoing support on the day - we look forward to cleaner roadsides in Tasmania!

Conservation Volunteers celebrated its 25th anniversary at the Annual General meeting held in Ballarat, Victoria, at CV Head Office. As part of the celebrations, Life Membership was awarded to long-serving Board Members Peter Hiscock, Suscan Campbell, David Clark and Colin Jackson, and to staff member Terry Peacock.

The Conservation Volunteers Naturewise tour at Montague Island, NSW, has won an amazing third NSW Tourism Award in a row!  The Montague Island Naturewise program won Best New Product in 2005, Best Ecotourism Product in 2006 and has been awarded Best Ecotourism Product again in 2007.
